Department Summary
Lewis 2 is a 22 bed Geri Psych/Behavioral Health Unit for patient population 55+. We provide a vibrant activities program along with special group sessions and programming to provide support. A special group room houses musical instruments, art supplies and other items to engage individual patient strengths and interests. Patients are cared for by an entire team consisting of: Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Case Managers and Milieu Counselors.
Job Purpose
Providing quality care according to Cambridge Health Alliance standards of nursing practice and the role expectations of the Adult Psychiatric Inpatient Unit.
The Milieu Counselor is a member of the multidisciplinary team who, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, is responsible for a safe and structured unit milieu as well as attending to the individual needs of patients in crisis in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
The Milieu Counselor works on a Geri/Adult Psych unit and assists with ADL'S lead or co-lead groups, perform safety checks, 1:1 meetings with patients, and will accurately chart patients B/P, TPR & weight.
The Milieu Counselor notifies the RN of any changes in vital signs, accurately measures and documents patients’ intake and output, uses appropriate methods of urine and stool collection and labeling of these specimens.
The Milieu Counselor assists patients with ADL's (bathing, laundry, organizing room), and helps maintain nutritional and hydration needs.
Qualifications/Experience:
High School graduate or GED required.
Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.
1 year previous mental health experience in a Psych locked unit strongly preferred.
Experience in a Geri-psych unit is highly preferred.
$3,000-$5,000 Sign-On Bonus Available.
