Department Description:

School Health Services are provided by the Cambridge Public Health Department through an agreement with the Cambridge Public School System. The School Health Program is dedicated to helping students in grades K-12 stay healthy and in school so the can reach their academic potential. The school Health Program provides full time coverage in all public schools.
Job Purpose: 
School Nurses provide physical and emotional care, first aid, medication administration, health counseling, and health education. They are responsible for planning care for children with chronic illnesses, linking families to primary care providers, advising school staff, and ensuring that all school children are appropriately immunized.
Excellent communication skills, the ability to respond to events and emergencies effectively and respectfully, and the ability to effectively prioritize competing responsibilities while under pressure is required. Duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements: 
  • Current RN licensure in Massachusetts with a BSN is required. 
  • AHA or ARC BLS Healthcare Provider 
  • Minimum of two years nursing experience is also required. 
  • Candidates must have Community, Pediatric, or School Nursing experience. 
  • The candidate must have demonstrated ability to work with multicultural, multiracial and multilingual populations.
